The selection for admission will be made from the merit list prepared on the basis of the marks in the qualifying examination and written test for the entrance examination.
At the time of admission the candidate should bring a certificate regarding the physical standards / fitness obtained from a Medical Officer in Govt. service not below the rank of an Assistant Medical Officer.
BDS course extends for a period of four and a half academic years followed by twelve months compulsory rotating internship. The course is subdivided as follows:
First B.D.S :-12 months
Second B.D.S :-12 months
Third B.D.S :-12 months
Fourth B.D.S part 1 :-12 months
Fourth B.D.S part 2:-6 months
Internship :-12 months
First, Second, Third and fourth B.D.S. courses are considered separately and classes and ranks are awarded separately. Fourth B.D.S. Part 1 and Part 2 are considered as separate courses. Those who fail to secure 50% of marks in a particular subject will be declared as failed in that subject and they will have to appear for examinations in the subjects concerned subsequently. Failed candidates will have to undergo additional course for remedial teaching. It is not compulsory to attend additional course for those who enjoy the carryover benefit. “Carry over” means that for example if a student passes two of the three subjects he will be promoted to next year, but will have to clear the failed subject before appearing for subsequent year exam. This will be applicable to students as per the pertinent rules.
Eligibility criteria for appearing in University Examination will be declared at the beginning of the course. The requirements to be completed are as follows.
80% of attendance in examination subjects and 70% in non-examination subjects taught in the year.
Completion of the work specified for the year. This includes practical and clinical assignments.
A candidate for admission to the Master in Dental Surgery course, must possess a recognized degree of Bachelor in Dental Surgery awarded by a university or institute in India and registered with the State Dental Council and has obtained provisional or permanent registration and has undergone compulsory rotatory internship of a year in an approved/recognized dental college:
Provided that in the case of a foreign national, the following procedure shall be followed:-
The Council may, on payment of the prescribed fee for registration, grant temporary registration for theduration of the post-graduate training restricted to the dental college/institution to which he or she is admitted for the time being exclusively for post-graduate studies:
Provided further that temporary registration to such foreign national shall be subject to the condition that such person is duly registered as medical practitioner in his/her own country from which he/she has obtained his/her basics dental qualification and that his/her degree is recognized by the corresponding state dental council or concerned authority.
There shall be a uniform NEET for admission to the post-graduate dental courses in each academic year conducted in the manner, as prescribed by the National Board of Examination or any other authority appointed by the Central Government in this behalf. The overall superintendence, direction and control of the NEET shall vest with the Council.
The candidatehas to secure the following category-wise minimum percentile in NEET for admission to post-graduate coursesheld in a particular academic year.
General 50th Percentile Person with locomotory disability of lower limbs 45th Percentile Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes 40th Percentile
Provided that the percentile shall be determined on the basis of highest marks secured in the All-India common merit list in NEET for post-graduate courses.
Provided further, that when sufficient number of candidates in the respective categories fail to secure minimum marks as prescribed in NEET held for any academic year for admission to post-graduate courses, the Central Government in consultation with the Council may, at its discretion lower the minimum marks required for admission to post-graduate courses for candidates belonging to respective categories and marks so lowered by the Central Government shall be applicable for the said academic year only.
Provided that in determining the merit of candidates who are in service of Government/publicauthority, weightage in the marks may be given by the Government/competent authority as an incentive upto 10% of the marks obtained for each year of service in remote and/or difficult areas upto the maximum of 30% of the marks obtained in NEET. The remote and difficult areas shall be as defined byState Government / competent authority from time to time.
Minimum 5% seats of the annual sanctioned intake capacity shall be filled up by candidates with locomotory disability of lower limbs between 50% to 70%.
Provided that in case any seat in this quota remains unfilled on account of unavailability of candidates with locomotory disability of lower limbs between 50% to 70% then any such unfilled seat shall befilled up by persons with locomotory disability of lower limbs between 40% to 50% - before they areincluded in the annual sanctioned seats for general category candidates:
The syllabus for post-graduate course includes both Applied Basic Sciences and subjects of concerned specialty. The syllabus in Applied Basic Sciences shall vary according to the particular speciality, similarly the candidates shall also acquire adequate knowledge in other subjects related to their respective speciality.
The period of training for the award of the MDS course shall be of three years duration for three academic years as full time candidates including the period of examination
